Kitchen Table Covers Week 4: A Piece of My Heart

How was your week? Did you do anything this week specifically for the joy of it? I'd love to hear about it!

One moment of joy for me was recording this week's song. I've been having so much fun learning how to use my new home-studio equipment. I completely lose track of time and end up going to sleep waaaay too late. Luckily, having 2 kids has prepared me to function under really terrible sleep conditions. And of course, I use the term "function" very loosely.

This week I teased the song on my instagram and facebook pages with the following hint:

“The song was written by two men, and covered by a big sister and Big Brother.”

Nobody really took a stab at it, but I was quite pleased with my own cleverness. Have any ideas?

It was originally sung by Erma Franklin (yes, Aretha's big sister), and then made famous by Janis Joplin's band Big Brother and the Holding Company. Once again, I'm picking some tough acts to follow, but I hope you like the spin I put on this killer song.
